Position Description The Software Architect will assist migrating legacy tools to the cloud while delivering new capabilities built upon decades of environmental science and celestial studies to increase the immediate awareness and risks to DoW Infrastructure and Systems, advancing Space Weather Forecasting capabilities. Provides architectural and big picture oversight for development of new or enhanced products.

Qualifications
Required • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience in a software engineering related field • Minimum of 6+ years of progressive experience in software development, including at least 3 years as a Software Architect or IT Systems Architect. Must demonstrate extensive knowledge of software and application design principles, architectural best practices, and related frameworks. • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI should one be required.
• Proficiency in software development and coding across various languages such as: Java, JavaScript, C/C++, Python, FORTRAN, etc. • Strong understanding of modeling and engineering methodologies such as Unified Modeling Language (UML) and of Department Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF). • Experience designing modern applications optimized for deployment in an AWS Cloud environment.
Desired • Active TS/SCI • Recent experience with AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, IRIS, OpenAI, etc. S. , satellites), or similarly complex systems such as those found in aerospace engineering.
• Strong technical mindset with exceptional attention to detail, along with high-quality organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
